Is Employer of Record the right setup for your plans?

EOR is a strong option when you want to hire without your own local entity, but it is not automatically the right solution for every situation. The best structure depends on where you are hiring, how you want to employ your people and your longer-term plans in Europe.

Hire without your own local entity – Employer of Record:
A practical option when you want to employ talent locally without establishing your own company first. Parakar becomes the legal employer while you manage the employee’s day-to-day work.

Remain the legal employer – Non-Residential Payroll:
In certain European countries and situations, your US company may be able to employ people directly without creating a local entity. Our experts can help determine whether this structure is possible and appropriate.

Build your own local presence – Entity setup:
Planning a larger or long-term European operation? Establishing your own local entity may provide a better structure for your future plans.

Not sure which route fits your plans? We look at your countries, workforce and growth ambitions before recommending the right way forward.

Questions about employing people in Europe?

Questions US companies ask about hiring in Europe

Below you’ll find answers to the most burning questions you may have about Parakar or our Employer of Record service. If you can’t find the answer, we’re more than happy to answer them in a consult.

No questions found!
When should a US company use an EOR instead of setting up its own European entity?

An EOR can be a strong option when you are making your first hires, entering a new market, hiring a small number of employees or want to move before committing to your own local entity.

If you are planning a larger, permanent operation, establishing an entity may eventually make more sense. In some countries, other employment structures may also be available. We look at where you want to hire, how you expect to grow and what you need operationally before recommending a route.

How quickly can we hire an employee in Europe through an EOR?

There is no single onboarding timeline for Europe. Timing depends on factors such as the country, the employee’s right to work, the employment terms, benefits and the information needed to complete the local setup.

Using an established EOR structure can avoid waiting for your own local entity to be incorporated. Once we know where you want to hire and the employee’s situation, our team can explain the required steps and give you a realistic onboarding path.

Can we hire employees in several European countries through Parakar?

Yes, across the European markets Parakar supports. Instead of your US team coordinating separate employment providers and trying to interpret different local requirements on its own, you work with one European partner supported by local country experts.

The important distinction is that Europe is not one employment jurisdiction. Each employee still needs to be employed according to the rules and practices of their country. Parakar combines that local expertise with central guidance for your international team.

If Parakar is the legal employer, who manages our employee?

Your company still manages the employee’s day-to-day work. You determine their role, responsibilities, objectives and how they work with your wider team.

As the Employer of Record, Parakar takes responsibility for the local employment relationship and related administration, including compliant onboarding, payroll and local employment requirements. When employment matters require country-specific knowledge, our specialists remain involved to guide your team.

Do European employees need different benefits than our US employees?

Often, yes. There is no single “European benefits package.” Statutory entitlements and common market practices vary by country and can differ considerably from what your US team is used to.

Depending on the market, this can include paid annual leave, sick leave, parental leave, pension arrangements, social security contributions and additional locally expected benefits. Our local experts help you understand what is mandatory, what is customary and what fits the employee and your company.

What will it actually cost to hire an employee in Europe?

The employee’s base salary is only one part of the total employment cost. Depending on the country, you may also need to account for employer social security contributions, pensions or insurance, statutory benefits, local market benefits and the cost of the EOR service.

These costs differ significantly between European countries. Rather than applying one European estimate, we help you understand the local cost structure for the country where you want to hire so your Finance and HR teams can budget more realistically.

Can we use our US employment contract and HR policies in Europe?

Your US policies can provide a starting point, but they should not simply be copied across to a European employee. Employment contracts and working conditions need to reflect the requirements of the country where the employee is employed.

This can affect areas such as probation periods, working hours, paid leave, notice periods, benefits and other employment terms. We help translate your company’s way of working into a locally compliant employment setup, without losing sight of the employee experience you want to provide.

Can we use at-will employment for employees in Europe?

Not in the same way you may be used to in the US. European countries have their own requirements around notice periods, dismissal procedures, documentation and employee protection.

That means ending an employment relationship usually requires more preparation than simply applying a US at-will approach. Parakar’s local experts help your team understand the requirements in the employee’s country and guide you through the appropriate process when employment situations become more complex.

Can a US company hire employees in Europe without setting up a local entity?

Yes. In many situations, an Employer of Record allows your US company to hire an employee in Europe without first establishing its own local entity.

Parakar becomes the legal employer in the relevant country and takes care of the local employment setup, payroll and employment administration, while your company remains responsible for the employee’s day-to-day work.

An EOR is not automatically the right solution in every situation. Depending on the country, number of employees and your longer-term plans, an EOR, Non-Residential Payroll or your own entity may be a better fit. Our European experts help you understand which setup makes sense for your plans.
