In Ireland, the ‘Sick Leave Act’ came into effect on 1 January 2023, providing a statutory sick pay scheme for all employees. The scheme is being phased in over a four-year period to help employers, particularly small businesses, to plan ahead. As of 2025, employees are entitled to 7 days of paid statutory sick leave per year, increasing annually up to 10 days by 2026. This leave is paid at 70% of the employee’s normal wages, subject to a daily cap.
